History

Where tradition meets creativity

Since 2019, Matteo Pinato and his family have been welcoming guests to Restaurant Il Leone in Sesto/Moso with passion and dedication. Hospitality is deeply rooted in his family: his grandfather, Lauro Pinato, owned a restaurant in Veneto, where Matteo grew up surrounded by the aromas and traditions of the kitchen. As a child, he watched his beloved grandfather at work and discovered his passion for cooking at an early age.

After graduating from hospitality school, Matteo gained valuable experience in some of Italy’s most renowned establishments, including Harry’s Bar Cipriani in Venice, the Billionaire by Flavio Briatore in Porto Cervo, Villa d’Este on Lake Como, and Meloncino al Caminetto in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The time came for Matteo to follow his own vision. Together with his father Luca, also a chef, and his mother Franca, he brought Il Leone to life as a place where family, passion, and hospitality come together.

Today, Matteo reinterprets his grandparents’ treasured recipes with creativity and passion, blending the traditional flavours of his hometown Rovigo with South Tyrolean cuisine to create a unique dining experience where tradition meets innovation.
